Special Court in Pristina started a trial of Zoran Djokic from Pec suspected of committing war crimes against the civilian population in March and April 1999, in this town. Djokic pleaded not guilty after hearing the charges, Radio KIM reports.

According to the indictment Zoran Djokic is suspected of “committing war crimes against the civilian population in the Kristal settlement in Pec along with unidentified criminal group of Serb nationality”, including “forceful entry into Albanian houses, forcing people to leave their homes, physically and psychologically mistreated them and murdered them.”

On the other hand, Djokic’s defence lawyer Ljubomir Pantovic, based on the first insight in indictment said the prosecution lacks the evidence and its witnesses are “not credible.”

“There are no evidences, everything is circumstantial, no witness saw Zoran Djokic on the spot where the acts were committed, but heard from other people that he has participated in it, that some Zoran Djokic took part in it,” Pantovic said, adding “witnesses that prosecution proposed are the members of the families that were affected, and all of them said they have not seen him, nor recognized him, did not know him but heard from their neighbors that Zoran Djokic took part in it.”
