Is it possible to stop the sale of Serbian property (Politika)

Serbian has invested in last five decades more than USD 17 billion in road, energy and telecommunication infrastructure and economy in Kosovo.

Agreement reached in Brussels to stop privatization of Serbian companies in northern Kosovo, should stop illegal sale of Serbian property, like the one that is threatening to Trepca and Brezovica.

According to some unofficial estimation, Serbia had invested in last five decades more than USD 17 billion in road, energy and telecommunication infrastructure and economy of Kosovo. Companies from Serbia used to own considerable number of business premises and property in Kosovo and Metohija, however, according to media reports, what is left out of all of it is only around 40 companies, since the rest, around 1.200 are already illegally privatized.

Property of Serbia, amounting to USD 220 billion, has been sold for next to nothing in front of the eyes of international community, even though Kosovo authorities were not entitled to do so according to (UNSC) Resolution 1244.

That was carried out through a by-pass route, because UNMIK has handed over its right to manage the property to Kosovo Privatization Agency, which has sold Serbian companies to Albanian businessmen for only USD 800 million.

Newest example of illegal privatization is intention to sell the mining complex of Trepca through adoption of a new law on public companies. Whereas the second one is privatization of the ski center Brezovica whose owner is ‘Inex Interexport’, that is, ‘Skijalista Srbije’.

Serbian officials said that Serbia is not against the investment in the touristic center of Brezovica, however those who wish to invest should first make an agreement with the real owners of the premises and property on that mountain.
