NATO: Army an internal matter of Kosovo (Danas)
It is not up to NATO to decide on the structure, mandate and mission of the Kosovo Security Force. Future of the KSF is an internal matter of local Kosovo institutions. NATO currently supports the development of the KSF in the framework of their original mission and mandate, through the NATO Liaison and Advisory Team. If the mandate and mission of these forces evolve, the North Atlantic Alliance will have to consider the level of engagement of NATO - unofficially has been told to Danas at NATO headquarters on the occasion of the claims of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Kosovo that Pristina "received NATO approval for the establishment of the armed forces" which should transform the current KSF.
Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Kosovo has cited the Head of the Kosovo's diplomacy Hashim Thaci after meeting with the Deputy Assistant Secretary of the Bureau of Political-Military Affairs of the US State Department Todd Chapman. Thaci said after the meeting that the priorities of Kosovo are, "the establishment of the armed forces, joining the Partnership for Peace and the initiation of political dialogue with NATO."
