Selimi: Kosovo will become UN member, Serbia won’t even try to block (NSPM, RTK2)
The process of recognition of Kosovo is a one-way street, we will become a UN member and Serbia will be conditioned to recognize Kosovo, claims Kosovo Deputy Foreign Minister Petrit Selimi.
“The fact is that Kosovo will be recognized by Serbia, because it will have to choose at some moment between two options – either EU, including clear borders for Serbia, or without the EU with some outdated ideas. We will pursue that direction following the pace - two steps forward one step backwards. In the end Serbia will be conditioned to recognize Kosovo,” said Selimi to RTK2. He added that it is important that Kosovo’s membership in the UN is discussed and that Belgrade, Pristina, Brussels and Washington are aware of it and will work on it in years to come.
Selimi also said that situation has ‘dramatically changed’ when it comes to situation of the EU states that did not recognize Kosovo. “These states didn’t even veto Stabilization and Association Agreement. We have good relations with four out of five of states,” said Selimi, and added that those states will recognize Kosovo because no one would wish to be bigger catholic than Pope.
