A Serb councillor forbidden to attend the meetings of the Municipal Assembly of Gnjilane/Gjilan (KiM radio)
The only Serbian representative in the Municipal Assembly of Gnjilane/Gjilan, Srđan Mitrović, from the beginning of 2016, was forbidden to attend the meetings of the municipal authority.
Mitrović says that the reason of his removal from the assembly is that he performs and as the Chairman of the Interim Authority of the Municipality of Gnjilane within the Serbian system, since the beginning of this year.
"Before the start of each session, the councillors themselves declare about whether I should take part in the parliamentary session. Until now I was not allowed to attend, so this year I did not participate in the work of the Municipal Assembly on any session," said Mitrović.
Although the Ministry of Local Self-Government is familiar with the case no one has spoken about it.
Gnjilane/Gjilane Municipal Assembly has 35 members, two of which belong to non-majority communities, in this case, Serbian and Turkish. Although by the law the position of the deputy mayor for communities belongs to them, so far no one is elected though new elections are in a year.
It is interesting that the Mayor of Gnjilane/Gjilan, Lutfi Haziri has not visited any Serbian environment in this municipality since the appointment to the position in January 2014.
