Interpol accepted Kosovo’s request; UNMIK “mediated” based on 1244 (Serbian media)
Serbian media have covered the statement of UNMIK, about recent reactions and media reports regarding UNMIK’s role in relation to INTERPOL’s recent decision and functions.
The media are quoting the statement that was sent by UNMIK spokeswoman Sanam Dolatshahi to Tanjug as a response to the agency's question asking who gave the permission to UNMIK to seek removal of the indictment against Kosovo Prime Minister Ramush Haradinaj, whom Serbia has charged for war crimes.
According to the statement which is widely quoted in the Serbian media, in December 2016, UNMIK submitted a note to INTERPOL, originating from Kosovo authorities, asking the International Wanted Notices (IWNs) against 20 Kosovo habitual residents to be removed, on the basis of UN Security Council Resolution 1244 (1999), as it has done in all such cases in the past.
The statement refers to a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed between UNMIK and INTERPOL in 2002 under United Nations Security Council Resolution 1244 (1999) to establish a framework for cooperation between the parties including for the exchange of police information, the publication and circulation of INTERPOL notices, the transmission of diffusions and access to the INTERPOL network and databases.
Last night, Beta agency reported, as told by Kosovo police, that Interpol accepted the Kosovo Police request, to remove the Prime Minister of Kosovo, Ramush Haradinaj, and 17 other persons from Kosovo from the list of international warrants.
