Metropolitan Amfilohije: I did not hold funeral mass for Vucic (Danas, KIM Radio)
We are attacking no one, neither me nor the Church, we are only expressing concern for the destiny of the most important and the most sacral part of the Serbian state, Metropolitan Amfilohije told IN4S portal, adding he had never held a funeral mass for Aleksandar Vucic, Serbian daily Danas reported.
Commenting on the criticism of the Serbian officials voiced earlier over his statement on the policy of Aleksandar Vucic toward Kosovo, Metropolitan Amfilohije said “it is unacceptable to enter into any form of a binding agreement with those running occupied Kosovo and Metohija”.
He underlined as unacceptable for the Serbian Orthodox Church (SOC) any “agreement” that would jeopardize the territorial integrity and sovereignty of Serbia.
“No one with the sanity among the Serbian population would accept such a thing, and I am sure among the Albanians too, as no one’s future can be built on plunder and crime,” Danas daily reported further.
Metropolitan Amfilohije also rejected allegations that he had held the funeral mass for Vucic twice.
“I had never held the funeral mass for Vucic. I did it for the then Prime Minister, Ivica Dacic and the then Assembly of Serbia. However, if Vucic’s associates accept that funeral mass, then I cannot do anything about it,” Danas quoted Metropolitan Amfilohije as saying.
He also added he has nothing against Aleksandar Vucic, and that the issue of Kosovo is the issue of peoples’ destiny.
“Mister Vucic is the President of Serbia, and a great responsibly is on his shoulders. However, he has no right to give up on that responsibility, what is the tendency now. Kosovo is the issue of all of us, and should there be no language of the Church we would neither have the liberation of Kosovo and Metohija in 1912, nor would we preserve the Pec Patriarchate and Visoki Decani Monastery, Metropolitan Amfilohije said, adding that with the acceptance of the Brussels agreement denouncing of Kosovo has started.
Portal IN4S also recalled that the statement of the Metropolitan Amfilohije he fears the politics of the Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic leads toward treason of Serbia and Kosovo, caused strong reactions of the Serbian governmental officials, including the General Secretary of the Serbian Progressive Party (SNS), Nikola Selakovic, Serbian Government Office for Kosovo Director, Marko Djuric, ministers Aleksandar Vulin and Zorana Mihajlovic, part of the opposition parties in Serbia, while Aleksandar Vucic announced he will speak on the matter on 14 January, Danas daily reported.
