Kosovo independence is reversible, Serbian FM says (TV N1, RTS, BETA)
Serbian Foreign Minister Ivica Dacic said on Thursday that he would continue his efforts to convince other countries to withdraw their recognition of Kosovo.
"We will continue to explain to everyone that the case of Kosovo is about secession by violence and separatism which runs counter to international law. We do not recognize that false state,” Dacic said in the town of Sevojno.
“This annoys the people who think the issue is closed. Their concept is that this is an irreversible process … it’s a reversible process and we have our own path and policy. They can conduct their policies but they have to decide if they are our friends and partners or whether they will go against us because it seems to me that doing both is not possible,” Dacic said in response to questions from reporters about his claim a day earlier that “a permanent UN Security Council and European Union member” intends to lodge protests with every country that decides to withdraw their recognition of Kosovo.
“Serbia wants agreements and compromise but will not give up its national and state interests,” the foreign minister said and added that no one is going to scare us with blackmail.
Speaking in parliament during question time for the government, Dacic said some countries were threatening to replace UN Security Council sessions on Kosovo with consultations behind closed doors.
“You’ve seen many people come to our country to make friendly statements and then send protest notes to countries which have withdrawn their recognition of Kosovo and are threatening us with the abolishing of UN Security Council sessions on Kosovo which would be replaced with consultations behind closed doors,” Dacic told MPs.
Dacic has been investing effort for some time to convince countries that have recognized Kosovo to reverse their decisions.
