Ilic: To call referendum on Kosovo, citizens to decide (FoNet, Danas)

Leader of New Serbia (NS) Party Velimir Ilic told FoNet news agency there is not room to manipulate with the issue of Kosovo status and it is necessary to call referendum where citizens would decide whether or not Serbia would recognize Kosovo.

No government has the right to make such decision and give away part of the Serbian territory on behalf of the people, by recognizing Kosovo on behalf of the Serbian citizens, Ilic further said.

Citizens are the ones to decide about that in a referendum with a clearly formulated question and it should read: “Should Serbia recognize Kosovo as an independent state?”

Posing this question in a different manner is just blurring reality and opens the room for the government to renounce Kosovo on behalf of all of us. Ilic also said that ordinary people to not understand what it means when someone tells them Kosovo would get a seat in the UN.

Therefore, the question should be posed in a simple, plain language and all political parties that understand the severity of the situation must sit together and agree, take a stance and clearly and loudly demand that a referendum on this topic is called for, Serbian media reported.
