Belgrade ready for dialog with Pristina, Serbia's PM says (N1)

Serbia and the Western Balkans have a clear European perspective and France will continue its support to the regional European path, Franch official has said on Tuesday.

Jean Bizet, a member of the Senat of France, also said that it was necessary for Belgrade and Pristina to continue the dialogue and, with the EU stronger support, to find a solution acceptable to both sides.

Serbia’s Prime Minister Ana Brnabic told Bizet that Serbia was ready for the dialogue on Kosovo which should lead to a compromise that would secure the stability and the normalisation of relations between Belgrade and Pristina.

Brnabic also told Bizet, who heads the Senat’s delegation of the Council for European Affairs on a visit to Belgrade, that her country understood and supported a whish of France and other states to internally strengthen and reform the bloc, a statement from her office said.

It added Brnabic said those reforms were useful not only for the member states but also for Serbia and other candidate countries from the Western Balkan.

Brnabic said she expected French President Emanuel Macron to visit Serbia this year which would be, as she put it, an excellent opportunity to cement the friendship between the two countries.

She added that the EU membership meant the sharing of values and principles, including the rule of law and fight against corruption.

The EU expects Serbia to make a substantial improvement in those two areas as necessary conditions, on top of the normalisation of relations with Pristina, needed for Belgrade to continue its efforts to get closer to the full membership.
