Lebet on Ivanovic’s murder: Terrifying message that those who act and speak independently can be silenced (KoSSev, Radio kontakt plus)
“Six months have passed since the murder of Oliver Ivanovic and we do not know how the investigation would unfold. This is in particular difficult for his family, that wishes justice to be served, but it is also difficult for all the people who live in Kosovo and think independently.”
This is the message of a Swiss Ambassador in Kosovo, Jean-Hubert Lebet on the occasion of a six-month anniversary of Oliver Ivanovic murder, Serbian media reported.
Swiss Ambassador further added that “this sends a terrifying but clear message – that people who act and speak independently can be silenced and perpetrators count on impunity. Hopelessness of police and judiciary in Kosovo is supported by the silence from Belgrade that have launched an investigation about this case without any results up to the day.”
Ambassador Leber paid a tribute to the slain prominent Serb leader Ivanovic yesterday in Mitrovica North, and urged responsible bodies to undertake additional efforts, shed the light on the murder and punish the perpetrators, since such acts “must not go unpunished.”
“Many people, including myself, remember Oliver Ivanovic as an independent and strong person who expressed his opinion regardless potential harm it could cause to him. In a democratic society, everybody should freely express opinion and not be afraid to be killed over that,” Ambassador Lebet said.
KoSSev portal and Radio kontakt plus also recalled there are yet no reactions from official Belgrade and Pristina on the six-month anniversary of Oliver Ivanovic murder.
