Lunacek: Five member states aren’t doing anything to recognize Kosovo (Koha/ABC News)
In an interview for ABC News, Ulrike Lunacek, the European Parliament’s Rapporteur on Kosovo, said she was very pleased to hear Commissioner for Migration, Home Affairs and Citizenship, Avramopoulos, say that Kosovo is making the final steps toward visa liberalization. “This is the first time that I am hearing something like this from the Commission. Kosovo authorities need to adopt another four laws. I will not give any dates, but if Kosovo adopts the laws and the Commission continues its work, then the member states will have to say yes. They have understood that the main reason behind the recent mass migration is that the people of Kosovo are feeling isolated in the Balkans,” she said. Lunacek also said that the five non-recognizing EU member states are not doing anything to recognize Kosovo’s independence. “These five member states listen to me, but the problem is that they are not doing anything about it. It is the fifth time that I call on them to recognize the independence of Kosovo,” she added.
