The trio blocking the state and leaving no solution but taking to the streets (Gazeta Blic)
It seems the political situation in Kosovo has no solution, remarks in an opinion piece editor-in-chief of the Gazeta Blic news website, Adrian Collaku. He says that the “unprecedented” blockade by the leader of the Democratic Party of Kosovo (PDK), Hashim Thaci, the chairperson of the Kosovo Assembly session, Flora Brovina, and the President of Kosovo, Atifete Jahjaga, seems to leave no other option but to take to the streets. Six days have gone by since the post-election coalition bloc gave up claims on the post of Assembly speaker and yet the Thaci-Brovina-Jahjaga trio undertook no action to begin resolving the situation. All three of them continue to insist that there needs to be a prior agreement between political parties before scheduling the next Assembly session. PDK now has the numbers to elect a speaker and should therefore act. This will then be followed by other constitutional procedures, observes Collaku. “It is not Jahjaga’s constitutional duty to decide who will form a government with whom”, he writes adding that Jahjaga’s task is to nominate a candidate for forming the government once the Assembly elects its speaker. This offer should first be extended to PDK and if it manages to secure a majority to form the government, let it do so. If not, Jahjaga should then nominate a candidate from a coalition that does have the parliamentary majority. If things do not take this course, Collaku warns that the only remaining option is to stage protests and concludes with a quote concerning the PDK. “It came to power with force and this is the only way it will leave it”.
