Deputy Chief of Russian office involved in car accident in Mitrovica North (Kosovapress)

Citing unidentified sources, Kosovapress reports that Igor Shulyatchenko, deputy chief of the Russian Office in Pristina, was involved in a recent car accident in northern Kosovo. The incident happened on April 18 around 21:30 hours on the Mitrovica-Leposavic road. The same sources claimed that Shulyatchenko was driving drunk on a vehicle with diplomatic plates when he hit a biker. “The victim is a 30 year-old and he was treated in the Mitrovica North hospital. The police have meanwhile tried to minimize the whole case,” sources said.

Hyseni and Ferguson discussed the issue of security for the people of Kosovo and the rule of law. Kosovo Police this morning detained nine Syrian nationals in the Mitrovica region. Previous reports that they were arrested in the police operation for seizing illegal weapons seem to be untrue as sources said the Syrian nationals were staying illegally and that this is why they were detained.

OSCE to support police in fight against corruption (dailies)

The OSCE Mission in Kosovo and the German Embassy begun today a project to support the Kosovo Police in combating high-level corruption. The project, financed by the Government of Germany, will be implemented by OSCE mission and foresees the establishment of a key group of criminal investigators and prosecutors from the Kosovo Police and the Special Prosecution, as well as strengthening their capacity to investigate cases of high-level corruption effectively.

Two vehicles of police officers set on fire in northern Kosovo (Kosovapress)

Citing unnamed sources, the news site reports that two vehicles belonging to Kosovo Police officers were set on fire in two separate cases in the northern part of Kosovo on Wednesday evening. One car was set on fire in front of the police station in Mitrovica North, while the other vehicle was set on fire in the Bosniak Mahalla in the north. According to sources, both vehicles were set on fire at the same time.

305 Kosovo Police members under investigation (Lajmi)

The Police Inspectorate of Kosovo (PIK) is investigating 305 members of the Kosovo Police (KP). This figure is derived only for 2014. The Police Inspectorate which is responsible for police assistance in improving performance, has dealt with a total of 1,304 cases for one year. Measures and recommendations given by PIK during 2014, have included: 20 arrests, 64 recommendations for suspensions and 13 recommendations for transfer. During the same year PIK has investigated 83 criminal acts with elements of corruption and abuse of official duty.

Rule of law institutions to coordinate actions against corruption (Koha)

Representatives of rule of law institutions held a joint meeting on Monday in order to coordinate actions to be taken in combating corruption. The meeting was attended by Acting Head State Prosecutor Syle Hoxha, head of the Kosovo Judicial Council Enver Peci, director of the Kosovo Police, Shpend Maxhuni, representatives of the Supreme Court and EU Rule of Law Mission in Kosovo (EULEX) judges and prosecutors.

Belgrade, Pristina police directors discuss migrants issue (Tanjug, Akter)

Serbian Police Director Milorad Veljovic met in Belgrade Tuesday with the police director from Pristina, Spend Maxhuni, to discuss the issue of increased influx of migrants from Kosovo in the countries of the European Union, the Serbian Ministry of Interior said in a release.

The police directors also talked about joint efforts in the fight against all forms of organized crime and security related incidents along the administrative line between central Serbia and Kosovo.

Kosovo Police denies report about dismissal of 50 Serb police officers (Express/Lajmi)

Besim Hoti, the Deputy Commander of Kosovo Police Regional Directorate in Mitrovica North, told Lajmi today that it is not true that 50 Serb police officers in northern Kosovo were suspended from duty. “There can be daily suspensions or even longer suspensions on certain issues and depending on the cases, but the information about the dismissal of 50 Serb police officers is not true,” Hoti said.
