People not happy with Jahjaga, Mustafa, Veseli (Koha)

UNDP and USAID will release today the Public Pulse IX, a study which included 1,306 respondents and focused on people’s satisfaction with the work of Kosovo’s institutions. According to results, political representatives like President Atifete Jahjaga, Prime Minister Isa Mustafa and Assembly Speaker Kadri Veseli have recorded the lowest level of people’s satisfaction since March 2007. Respondents further identified unemployment, poverty, and corruption as the main problems in Kosovo.

Sheikha Fatima to sponsor UAE-funded children’s hospital in Kosovo (The National)

ABU DHABI // Kosovo has awarded Sheikha Fatima bint Mubarak the Mother Teresa Humanitarian Medal in appreciation for her constant commitment to improving people’s living conditions across the world. Under the directives of Sheikha Fatima, chairwoman of the General Women’s union and widow of founding President Sheikh Zayed, a UAE-funded children’s hospital will be built in Pristina, capital of Kosovo.

Dalibor Jevtic appointed Communities and Returns Minister (Koha)

Kosovo's Prime Minister, Isa Mustafa, today appointed Dalibor Jevtic in the post of Communities and Returns Minister in the government of Kosovo. Jevtic is a member of the Serbian List. "The Serbian List informed PM Mustafa that they will return actively in the Kosovo institutions as of 27 April," reads a press release issued by Mustafa's Office.

Latvian Foreign Minister criticizes Serbia (Koha)

The Latvian Minister of Foreign Affairs, Edgars Rinkevics, during his visit to Kosovo on Thursday said that the recent statements of Belgrade officials barring the visit of Kosovo’s Deputy Prime Minister, Hashim Thaci to Serbia, are against the Pristina – Belgrade dialogue. According to him, such statements do not help the process of normalization of relations between Kosovo and Serbia. "Politicians on both sides have to abide by such statements," said Minister Rinkevics.

Thaci: EU delays could hamper Kosovo progress (Koha)

Kosovo’s Foreign Minister, Hashim Thaci, said that the Brdo Summit in Slovenia is a good opportunity to once again discuss with regional counterpart and the EU leaders about Kosovo’s European integration. In his address at the summit, Thaci stressed that Kosovo had made remarkable progress in the years following declaration of independence but that the EU delays and those of the Balkan countries in normalization of relations could hamper this progress.

Jacobson: The region together to combat crime and terrorism (Koha)

The United States Ambassador to Kosovo, Tracey Ann Jacobson, said on Wednesday that organized crime, migration and participation in foreign wars, remain issues of concern for the security of the Western Balkans. "In this region, of particular concern are the cross-border organized crime, irregular migration and the growing trend of fighters participating in foreign wars in Syria and Iraq,” Jacobson said. According to her, the only way to prevent these crimes is the interstate cooperation in the region.

Bulgarian President visits Kosovo (Koha)

Bulgaria's President, Rosen Plevneliev, is visiting Kosovo today. President Plevneliev met with Kosovo’s President, Atifete Jahjaga, and Kosovo Assembly Speaker, Kadri Veseli. Plevneliev and Jahjaga discussed the cooperation between Kosovo and Bulgaria and Bulgaria’s investments in Kosovo. During the meeting, Jahjaga asked for Bulgaria’s support for Kosovo’s Euro-Atlantic integration.  Meanwhile, Bulgarian President Plevneliev stressed that Kosovo and Serbia need to normalize their relations. Rosen Plevneliev, is the first Bulgarian President to visit Kosovo.

Opposition to boycott the Assembly (Koha)

The Alliance for the Future of Kosovo (AAK), Vetevendosje Movement and the Initiative for Kosovo (NISMA) said today they would boycott today’s and future sessions of the Kosovo Assembly after discussions on the petition with over 30,000 signatures against electricity prices were not included in the agenda. The AAK proposed the discussion but it failed to secure enough votes from MPs. Meanwhile, the three opposition parties held a press conference announcing that they will boycott the Assembly session.

Thaci and Dacic to attend a conference in The Hague (Koha)

Foreign Ministers of Kosovo and Serbia, Hashim Thaci and Ivica Dacic, are among more than 40 other world officials taking part in the two-day Global Conference on Cyberspace beginning today in The Hague. The conference will be opened by Dutch Prime Minister Mark Rutte and will also be attended by EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Federica Mogherini and the Secretary General of the Council of Europe Thorbjorn Jagland.
