Vjosa Osmani Sadriu, member of the presidency of the Democratic League of Kosovo (LDK), writes that many people talk about reserved and guaranteed seats for minority communities in Parliament, “but only a few people mention the fact that the Constitution of Kosovo obliges us to have minority communities represented in the government”. “In such circumstances, whoever wins the elections, minorities must be a part of the government. What needs to change however is the representation of the Albanian majority in the government. The Thaci 2 government was also known as a minority government.

The paper reports that Kosovo is getting ready to adopt its own currency. The Governor of the Kosovo Central Bank said the idea is currently being considered. Economic experts believe that a Kosovo currency would be necessary for developing monetary policies. But they also warn that the stability of the currency would be challenging to maintain, and it would be almost impossible to circulate a currency that could compete with the euro.

On the front page, the paper claims that the Democratic Party of Kosovo (PDK) has hired local and international lawyers to interpret the procedures for electing the Assembly Speaker and they concluded that the post can only go to someone from the winning party while the parliamentary groups can be created only once the Assembly is formed. The assessment dismisses arguments from the opposition bloc, which expressed its plan to join into a single parliamentary group so as to outvote the PDK and elect a Speaker from its own ranks.

All dailies report on the assassination of Democratic Party of Kosovo (PDK) candidate for Parliament, Elvis Pista, who was gunned down by unknown assailants on Sunday morning in the town of Rahovec/Orahovac. Over 2,000 people attended the funeral on Sunday. The police have not arrested anyone in relation to the killing, but has offered €10,000 to anyone with information that can help resolve the case. The Basic Prosecution in Gjakove/Djakovica said it has some information about the case, but will not reveal anything until the verification process is completed.

Armand Shkullaku remarks that the excellent process of 8 June elections has been covered by the shadows of the unknown. The main reason for this tensioned situation is the effort of some opposition parties to proclaim the other side, voted by 215 thousand Kosovars, an enemy. Using the excluding category to justify los, leads towards an unavoidable conflict. Unification of the losers could lead to a victory at the table, however they do not have any right to nominate this as a divine will to rescue Kosovo from evil.

The head of New Kosovo Alliance (AKR), Behgjet Pacolli, says that AKR was betrayed by Isa Mustafa and not the LDK. Pacolli says that Isa Mustafa did not call him at all, after he learned that AKR had not reached the electoral threshold. In addition, Mustafa had earlier told him not to form a coalition with the Democratic Party of Kosovo (PDK). “Now we have a dilemma. Maybe we will support Haradinaj, maybe Vetevendosje, maybe we will also support Thaci. But it is more important to pass the election threshold, and then all four options will be in play,” said Pacolli to Klan Kosova.

Kosovo has on Wednesday been admitted as a member to the Venice Commission which the paper says is a step forward in gaining membership in the Council of Europe. A statement issued by the Kosovo Foreign Ministry stated that 35 countries voted in favour of Kosovo’s membership in one of the most important institutions of the Council of Europe. Kosovo is expected to benefit directly from membership in the field of strengthening democracy as well as constitutional and election reforms.

The candidate for prime minister of Kosovo from the opposition bloc, Ramush Haradinaj, yesterday met international diplomats accredited in Pristina and discussed with them the recent political developments. The paper says that Haradinaj also spoke about the Kosovo-Serbia dialogue and gave assurances that he would be constructive. Earlier in the day, outgoing Prime Minister Hashim Thaci also spoke about the dialogue in a telephone conversation with EU High Representative Catherine Ashton where he is reported to have expressed readiness to resume talks with Serbia.

The paper on the front page reports that the new Kosovo Assembly could have the shortest lifespan imaginable, as it is likely to be dissolved after just one session when it comes to the election of the speaker. Once election results are certified, President Atifete Jahjaga has one month to call the first session of the new Assembly but the Democratic Party of Kosovo (PDK) insists that, as winner of the elections, it should get the post of speaker.

European Union High Representative Catherine Ashton hailed Sunday’s elections in Kosovo and said they are a step forward towards the consolidation of democracy. Ashton thanked the EU observers for their work during the elections process and the OSCE for its support.
