The OSCE Mission in Kosovo launched today the report ''Shelters for Victims of Domestic Violence in Kosovo. ''

The report provides an overview of current situation in the shelters for domestic violence in Kosovo, outlines the legal and institutional framework that regulates their functioning and municipal mechanisms on protection from domestic violence.

It elaborates on number of challenges and provides conclusions and a set of recommendations for institutions and shelters themselves.

Struggling to make ends meet as government support requires 50 per cent of their budget to come from other sources, NGO-run shelters for victims of domestic abuse might face closure once again.

Domestic violence shelters that shut down due to budgetary delays are expected to reopen by Monday; meanwhile, only the shelter in Gjakova remains to be functional.

On Friday, after reports that domestic violence shelters in Kosovo had been shut down for January and February due to budgetary delays, the Kosovo Government allocated 65,000 euros to the shelters at a cabinet meeting.
