OSCE: Shelters for Victims of Domestic Violence in Kosovo (Facebook)

The OSCE Mission in Kosovo launched today the report ''Shelters for Victims of Domestic Violence in Kosovo. ''

The report provides an overview of current situation in the shelters for domestic violence in Kosovo, outlines the legal and institutional framework that regulates their functioning and municipal mechanisms on protection from domestic violence.

It elaborates on number of challenges and provides conclusions and a set of recommendations for institutions and shelters themselves.

Gracanica: A person detained for domestic violence (KIM radio)

KIM radio reports that a Serb from Gracanica was detained last night because of beating his wife under the influence of alcohol, the Kosovo Police announced today.

The victim reported to the police last night about 8 pm, and was given medical assistance.

The suspect had 1.77 units of alcohol in his blood. Offender was detained in a cell at the discretion of the prosecutor, until he sober up.

Domestic violence is one of the problems in a society that is often concealed because of fear or feeling of embarrassment. Non-reporting of the perpetrators and the absence of measures to protect the victim often lead to serious consequences, sometimes with a death outcome.

A recent case of attempted murder in Gornja Gusterica village has disturbed residents of central Kosovo, reports KIM radio.

Justice Ministry presents new strategy for prevention of domestic violence (Koha)

Kosovo’s Deputy Justice Minister, Munir Basha, presented at a roundtable in Gjakova/Djakovica a new action plan and strategy for prevention of domestic violence in Kosovo covering the 2016-2020 period. Basha said the new document is largely based on results and recommendations from the previous programme and the professional work of all stakeholders in this process. He said the strategy aims not only to strengthen existing mechanisms for prevention of domestic violence but also establishment of new ones.
