Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic speaking for the Prva TV morning program said he has the political courage to resolve the Kosovo issue and “there would be peace unless somebody physically attacks the Serbs in Kosovo and Metohija,” B92 reported.

“There would be peace unless somebody physically attacks Serbs and starts to kill them, that I would not be able to bear,” Vucic said.

Vucic added he took upon himself resolving the Kosovo issue as his own job, while the Government of Serbia authorized him to negotiate.

Jean-Claude Juncker, the President of the European Commission (EC), said in Brussels on Wednesday that there was a high risk of the restoration of the 1990s if the Western Balkans countries did not have a perspective of joining the European Union, the FoNet news agency reported.

Speaking after talks with the Slovenian President Borut Pahor, Juncker said the Western Balkans’ chances of joining the bloc had to be real, adding he believed “it was the question of war or peace.”

Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic met today with Head of European Delegation in Serbia, Sem Fabrizi and conveyed him expectation that the EU would invest additional efforts in order to influence Pristina to revoke unilateral actions that bring peace and stability in the region into jeopardy, RTS reports.

“There is a need for lasting agreement. We are ready to continue talks with Pristina, when tariffs are revoked,” President Vucic said. He added that Belgrade is ready to find a compromise solution, and there is no alternative to the Belgrade-Pristina dialogue.

Former German Chancellor Gerhard Schroeder said it is realistic for Serbia to join the European Union by 2025, adding that Pristina would have to abolish the tariffs on the goods from central Serbia sooner or later, which is a precondition that both sides return to the negotiation table, RTV Puls reports.

“I absolutely think that the introduction of mentioned punitive tariffs is a bad thing. I think they will be revoked, and this is not my personal opinion, but also the opinion of the EU and other states that it has to be done sooner or later,” Schroeder told Blic daily.

Following the talks at Munich Security Conference, Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic assessed that position of Serbia is better and different, than it was before, adding he is proud of that, Tanjug news agency reports.

Vucic told RTS that the talks he had in Munich were difficult and good, pointing out that Belgrade-Pristina relations became one of the central issues not only for us and the region, but also beyond it.

Asked how Serbia can respond to Edi Rama’s statement that Kosovo is part of Albania, Vucic said “by serious and responsible politics.”

Outgoing Kosovo Minister for Communities and Returns, Dalibor Jevtic said that Kosovo Albanians instead of celebrating 17^th February should draw the line, Tanjug news agency reported. He added it should be seen what was resolved over the previous years, and what yet needs to be resolved.

According to Jevtic due to the bad economy and the situation in the society, maybe the worst ever relations of Kosovo leaders with the EU and USA, as well as lack of trust in Kosovo institutions, citizens in Kosovo have no reasons to celebrate.

As long as USA and the EU are not ready to concretely punish Kosovo Albanians, by cutting financial support for example, they will not give up on the current attitude, former US Ambassador to Serbia William Montgomery said, Tanjug news agency reported.

“What I am asking are not words or demarche, but rather concrete steps, such as the abolishment of financial support,” Montgomery said.

German Ambassador to Serbia, Thomas Schieb said his country together with the European and American partners is explicitly advocating for normalization of relations between Serbia and Kosovo. He also expressed hope the Belgrade-Pristina dialogue would continue soon and that the 2019 would be a year of good news, BETA agency reports.

Ambassador Schieb stressed that only dialogue can lead to a comprehensive, legally binding agreement which is a prerequisite for the EU membership.

Preserving and protecting territorial integrity, EU integration, and better cooperation with countries around the world are Serbia's main foreign policy goals. First Deputy PM and Foreign Minister Ivica Dacic said this on Wednesday in Belgrade, and pointed out that Serbia has strengthened its position on the international scene.

"The most recent addition to the regional power game is China; and the EU suspects that it may exploit its economic heft for political gains." This is stated in a report published ahead of this year's Munich Security Conference, dubbed, "The Great Puzzle: Who will pick up the pieces?"

The segment of the report dedicated to this region is entitled, "Western Balkans: With friends like these...," and it states that EU leaders "recognize the strategic importance of this missing piece in the 'jigsaw of Europe'."
