Rikalo: Reduced number of Serbs on electoral roll (KIM radio)

Central Election Commission yesterday adopted the electoral roll with 1.782,454 voters with the right to vote on 8 June.

CEC Member Nenad Rikalo said that number of Serbs with the right to vote is reduced in comparison with local elections held in November 2013.

“This time, too, there are more voters than inhabitants of Kosovo. The figure is bigger for around 40.000 voters,” said Rikalo.

Representatives of the four municipalities in Kosovo have frozen the campaign because of the decisions of the Central Election Commission. Possible boycott if the coat of arms of Kosovo is not removed and if the composition of the Board is not changed.

On the second day of election campaign, leaders of main political parties in Kosovo gathered in a meeting called by the US Ambassador Tracey Ann Jacobson.

Sources said that in the meeting, Jacobson made it clear to the leaders that her country expects the campaign and 8 June elections to be free and democratic.

Rikalo: Election material isn’t status neutral (Kontakt Plus radio)

Member of Kosovo Central Election Commission (CEC) Nenad Rikalo said today that the electoral material for the upcoming parliamentary elections in Kosovo on the June 8th will not be status neutral, and among other things there are problems with voter lists and the appointment of electoral committees.

Rikalo in a statement for Kontakt Plus radio said that today or tomorrow should be released the exact number of voters on the electoral roll

Boycott of the election campaign announced from Gračanica/Graçanicë too (RTK2)

Srpska Ticket condemned most sharply the decision of the Central Election Commission (CEC) to change electoral boards and unofficial announcement on division of mandates and possibility that threshold for minority tickets could be set to 70.000 votes.

Following decision of mayors of northern municipalities to freeze election activities due to CEC’s decision on composition of electoral boards and features of Kosovo’s statehood on ballots, Srpska Ticket also said that they most sharply condemn CEC’s decision.

Janjic: I expect a call to Serbs to vote (RTS)

The decision of the Serbian List to drop the campaign is actually a way to lead the campaign, says analyst Dusan Janjic. Belgrade politically can do much, but its hands are tied as the state, says Janjic to RTS.

In Kosovo began campaigning for a parliamentary election on June 8th. However, the Serbian List, which brings together a number of parties and initiatives, decided to withdraw from the campaign.

North threatens election boycott (Koha Ditore)

The paper reports on the front page that while Albanian political parties south of the Ibër/Ibar River have officially started their election campaigns, the Serb-inhabited northern municipalities have decided to do the opposite by stopping their electoral activities. Serbs are claiming that “decisions made by the Central Election Commission (CEC) are violating the law and rights of minority communities”. Northern Serbs say that the CEC decision to appoint voting center councils was not in accordance with the ethnic structure of the northern municipalities.

1.7 million citizens eligible to vote (Lajm)

The Central Election Commission (CEC) certified on Wednesday the final list of voters for the 8 June general elections. The list contains 1,782,454 names of voters, divided into 38 municipalities. Based on civil registration records, 33,735 voters will have the right to vote for the first time. During the CEC meeting, the accreditation of 430 electoral observers was also certified.

Election campaign starts officially (Lajm)

The official campaign for the 8 June elections started in Kosovo, after the “pre-election campaign”. The Kosovo Assembly has 120 seats, but 20 are reserved for minority communities, including ten for Serbs and the rest for other non-Serb communities. The Central Election Commission (CEC) has certified 30 participating entities, including 18 political parties, seven civic initiatives, one independent candidate and four coalitions, with a total of 1,235 candidates running.
