The NGO Advocacy Center for Democratic Culture (ACDC) yesterday organized a conference in Mitrovica North within the project ‘Empowering Women’.
Participants at the conference mainly addressed the issues of women’s inheritance rights in Kosovo north and presented their findings on whether women are equal with men in enjoying their rights.
The Director of the Serbian Government’s Office for Kosovo and Metohija, Marko Đurić, Bishop of Raška and Prizren Teodosije and chairperson of the provisional body of Zvečan Ivan Todosijević will present today at 14:00 in the Palace ‘Serbia’ the project of construction of the returnee settlement in Kosovo north ‘Sunny Valley’.
Vice-President of the Civic Initiative SDP, Ksenija Božović, was deposed yesterday from the post of the president of the local assembly in Mitrovica North Municipality. She is replaced by Dejan Gurišić.
Kosovo Privatization Agency (KPA) informed the public that next eviction of usurpers of the social property will take place in next couple days, with the full support of Kosovo Police on entire territory of Kosovo. This information was provided to KoSSev from the KPA following the portal’s inquiry about alleged temporary postponement of the eviction from seven business premises in Mitrovica North, which was supposed to take place last Thursday.
Return to settlements ‘Mušutište’ in Suva Reka/Suharekë and ‘Brdo’ in Mitrovica North was discussed at the third session of the Inter-ministerial Commission for Return yesterday in Pristina.
The chairperson of the working group, Minister for Communities and Return Dalibor Jevtić, said that he expects both proposals to be adopted, what would contribute to resolving problems affecting the return to this two settlements.
Training for Kosovo-Serb judges and prosecutors from northern Kosovo has been held in Montenegro in organization of the OSCE Mission in Kosovo. The head of OSCE Mission in Kosovo Jean-Claude Schlumberger said that ‘judicial system in northern Kosovo was for years dysfunctional’. “Such situation negatively influenced on the rule of law, including the right on access to justice and trials within the reasonable time,” said Schlumberger.
It is not the first time that statements of Serb representatives in Kosovo institutions are constructed in negative context, or to suit others. The Serbian Electoral Commission (RIK), decided to file criminal charges against three members of the electoral board at the polling station Lešak 9 in Leposavić/Leposaviq.
Chairman of the Interim Authority of North Mitrovica, Aleksandar Spiric, said that 12 apartments for the socially vulnerable families will be handed over soon. He said that municipality is fighting against domestic violence adding that progress in that area is visible. "Bearing in mind the number of reported cases of domestic violence, and the fact that safe houses exist only in the southern part of Mitrovica, we decided to open one in the northern part of the city. The Center for Social Work will deal with this issue," said Spiric.
Unemployment is the biggest problem of young people in northern Kosovo municipalities - Northern Mitrovica, Zvecan/Zveqan, Leposavic/Leposaviq and Zubin Potok. The research results conducted by the Youth Educational Club "Synergy" show that 60.6 per cent of the respondents marked as the biggest problem the youth unemployment, which is followed by domestic violence, poor educational system, poverty and crime among young people.
