CEC has the last say about Isa Mustafa’s legitimacy as LDK chairperson

(KTV)

Legitimation or non-legitimation of Isa Mustafa’s election as LDK chairperson is now in the hands of the Central Elections Commission (CEC).

Based on the Rule for Registration and Operation of political parties, the party statute is applied for election of the chairperson. The LDK statute clearly stipulates election of the chairperson with secret ballot and with more candidates.

Isa Mustafa was elected for his second mandate as LDK chairperson on Sunday with acclamation vote.

Albert Krasniqi of Kosovo Democratic Institute (KDI) said that civil society, same as media, was not allowed to monitor LDK Convention.

Krasniqi said that there are few chances that this CEC, which observes political parties with own rules, will take any decision that would cancel Mustafa’s election at the head of LDK.

Although it is not certain if LDK statute has been changed, Krasniqi said that based on CEC regulations the statutes cannot be changed at the time of holding elections. They should be submitted to CEC in advance to be verified if they are in harmony with the applicable legislation.

Petrit Zogaj of FOL Movement considers that LDK has demonstrated that it is a party which does not want to undergo reform.

During all Monday, KTV tried to get a reply from the CEC, but its spokesperson Valmir Elezi and the Head of the Political Party Registration Office were not available.
