Former MP Aida Derguti has announced she will not be running for election on 6 October but that her vote will nevertheless go to candidates from the Social Democratic Party (PSD) which she joined after leaving Vetevendosje.
“My political engagement was always in accordance to my beliefs, without taking into account difficult circumstances, such as when I joined the Kosovo Liberation Army. Similarly, in Vetevendosje Movement I was more engaged outside institutions than inside. In times when I was not sufficiently convinced, although I carefully followed political developments, I did not get engaged,” she wrote on social media.
PSD leader Shpend Ahmeti reacted to Derguti’s announcement saying decision not to run was personal. “We respect her decision and all I can say is we were fortunate to have had an MP like Aida Derguti,” Ahmeti said.
