Azem Vllasi: Community of Municipalities as Association (KiM Radio)

Community of Serbian Municipalities will be an Association for cooperation between municipalities with Serbian majority, not some mini government as some think, says political analyst Azem Vllasi.

Vllasi said that the agreement reached in Brussels by the Prime Minister of Kosovo and Serbia, clearly lists areas where this cooperation will take place, such as education and health.

“Community of Municipalities will be useful for the Serbs, but one should not have the illusion that it will be a mini government for municipalities with Serbian majority. Perhaps such representation is in the function of the campaign to persuade people to vote, but do not give dimensions that it will not have,” said Vllasi to KIM Radio.

Vllasi says he has no impression that the Government of Kosovo will openly support the SLS and SKS in the second round of elections for mayors of municipalities with Serbian majority south of the river.

“If the support is there it is not nearly as support of the Serbian government to the list made with its help. Lists and parties should not be affected by the one or the other side. Serbs should be left to vote freely, by their own conviction for the candidate who they think is the best,” said Vllasi to KIM radio.

Vllasi in general the whole election process assessed as positive. “There are fewer observations and relevant international agencies pointed that. In this respect, I expect the second round to be successful. If it fails then a problem are not opponents of elections, but authorities that should allow voters to exercise their right.
