The pressures on the RS “muted” while the Kosovo problem lasts (VESTIonline)

Professor at the Faculty of Political Science and analyst Predrag Simic warns that in 2014 Kosovo will continue to be a major issue, and that pressures on the Republika Srpska will be „muted” as long as the Kosovo issue lasts.

Kosovo remains in the spotlight

“Right now the West sees Kosovo as the main trigger of new conflicts in the Balkans,” Simic said in an interview to Srna and said that there is no conflict in BiH since the Dayton Agreement, and therefore there is no reason for any pressure from outside.

But, he says, if Kosovo issue ends, then there will be probably those who will seek to change situations in Dayton’s BiH, to change the Dayton Constitution of Bosnia and Herzegovina and to constitute itself as a country that will be able to move into the European and Euro-Atlantic integration.

He believes that the special theme this year will be Kosovo, marking the First World War and the beginning of the process by mutual genocide lawsuits of Croatia and Serbia.

According to him, Kosovo will remain in the headlines because the signing of the Brussels Treaty, or maintenance of Kosovo’s local elections, as well as getting the date of the start of negotiations between Serbia and the EU are not sufficient enough to solve the problems.
