The new mayor of Gjakova, Mimoza Kusari-Lila, has reacted fiercely to the announced visit of the Serb minister, Aleksandar Vulin, in Gjakova for Orthodox Christmas.

Kusari-Lila, in a statement published on social site Facebook, said before Vulin can step on the territory of Gjakova, he should stop and think well because he is entering one of the hardest hit municipalities during the war.

Gjakova mayor reminded the Serb minister about his country’s atrocities against Kosovo civilian population during the war in 1998 and the recent exhibition of Bogujevci family in Belgrade. “From 1998 to massacres of 1999, many families from Gjakova experienced the terror of Bogujevci family which you now saw in Belgrade”, Kusari-Lila wrote.

At the end of her note, Kusari-Lila asked the Serb minister not to take the trouble and undertake the visit because the church is not in danger but “your visit will also have a negative impact on the calm of the Orthodox Church”. I urge the Government of Kosovo, EU Office in Pristina and Brussels, EULEX and KFOR, if your mission is peace and security, not to allow this visit as it is neither the right time nor the right place for it”, said Kusari-Lila.
