German Ambassador Peter Blomeyer said he attended in the capacity of facilitator yesterday’s meeting between leaders of the Democratic Party of Kosovo (PDK), the Democratic League of Kosovo (LDK) and the Alliance for the Future of Kosovo (AAK). Blomeyer said discussions focused on a speedy conclusion of election reforms that will contribute to Kosovo’s future. The German ambassador said Vetevendosje did not attend the meeting, “because it does not have the majority in parliament and because it is not changing its position”.

Commenting on reserved parliamentary seats for minority communities, Blomeyer said his personal position but also the position of the international community is to extend for another mandate the reserved seats as this would also help with the integration of northern Mitrovica.

Blomeyer said Germany’s position on the EU rule-of-law mission (EULEX) is that it should maintain its presence because this is good for Kosovo and that Pristina’s request for the end of its mandate is meaningless. Blomeyer said Kosovo needs the EU mission.
