European Parliament’s resolution on Kosovo based on the report of MEP Ulrike Lunacek is important to encourage substantial improvements in Kosovo and also to convince members of the EU that have not yet recognized independence of Kosovo, to do so, writes the paper today.

The resolution addresses concrete issues and urges authorities to do more in the fight against organized crime and corruption, approve election reform, and continue dialogue with Serbia.

The paper says the resolution’s part dealing with EULEX is particularly important as it calls for possible transfer of competencies to local institutions to be done gradually and also involve in the process the civil society. The resolution, it adds, should also be seen as recognition of the progress reached in Kosovo but also as criticism for serious lagging in the rule of law field.

Kosovo needs deep reform in the fields such as public administration, judiciary, and economy as the only way to ensure the country emerges from isolation.
