Unblock the reform (Kosova Sot)

The front-page editorial of this daily writes that instead of sitting down to unblock the election reform, Kosovo political parties dispute from distance with one another, on certain issues that do not bring any productivity. Some of them are against changes of the Constitution, the others rush to request political agreement to prolong the reserved seats at the Assembly. “It is absurd to mix these issues knowing that improvement of election Law has nothing to do with minorities,” writes this daily.

The main issues should be simplification of the election system, guarantees for an apolitical Central Election Commission and cleaning of voters’ lists. Politicians are not bringing alternatives for any of these issues. Using press conferences, broadcasters and social networks, politicians are creating more confusion instead of finding compromise to unblock the reform.

Political and institutional energy should focus on the weak points of former elections, in order to prepare a joint package of proposed changes. The main responsibility belongs to the major parties, PDK and LDK, while consensus of other minor parties is also required. If political leaders leave aside their personal calculations, and make decisions on interest of citizens, then the election reform could conclude very soon. Otherwise, months will pass, and if governmental crisis is provoked, possibility of holding elections without reform, is not excluded. On the eyes of EU, this would be a serious own goal that would harm the state, concludes this daily.
