Podgorica – Charge d’Affaires of the Embassy of Montenegro in Pristina Radovan Miljanic said that the Montenegrin community in Kosovo, after entering into the Constitution, will be able to accomplish a number of privileges, including participation in the legislative and executive authority.

“By the constitutional recognition the Montenegrins would participate in government, would use the funds for minorities of the Government of Kosovo, and there would also be many opportunities for employment of Montenegrins in Kosovo,” said Miljanić.

Miljanic said to the Montenegrin state television that the political representatives of the Montenegrin community in Kosovo, after the constitutional changes, will get a guaranteed seat in the Kosovo parliament, and thus the opportunity to participate in government.

Miljanic said he has no information on number of Montenegrins currently living in Kosovo, adding that, according to the census of 1981, there were more than 27,000.

“In any case, now there are much less,” he said.

Kosovo Prime Minister Hashim Thaci said earlier today that the reconstruction of Kosovo Constitution, which provides the Brussels agreement, the Montenegrin national community will enter into the highest law of Kosovo, which is a condition of Podgorica for establishing full diplomatic relations.

Thaci said to Television of Montenegro that Montenegrins in Kosovo’s new constitution will get all the rights they are entitled to by the highest European standards.

He could not say when amending of the Constitution will happen, or whether it will happen before the parliamentary elections in Kosovo, probably to be held in mid-year.

“From the beginning I was for the Montenegrin community to be in the Constitution. It will happen with the change of the Constitution. With the reconstruction ahead of us, Montenegrin and Croatian communities will be part of the Kosovo Constitution,” said Thaci.
