Deadline for North Mitrovica elections expires today (rtklive.com)

Today expires the deadline for candidates in North Mitrovica mayoral elections. Officials from the Central Elections Commission said not a single candidate has applied to run for the post of mayor in these extraordinary elections.

Interested for candidate of northern Mitrovica municipality have only today to apply. CEC officials said that although working hours are until 18.00hrs, they can still accept applications until 24.00hrs.

CEC spokesperson, Valmir Elezi, told Radio Kosova that not one candidate has applied for the post of mayor in elections in the northern municipality of Mitrovica.

Mayoral elections in North Mitrovica will be repeated on 23 February after the elect mayor, Krstimir Pantic, refused to take oath of office under Kosovo laws.

At the same time, one of the most serious candidates for the post, Oliver Ivanovic, leader of SDP list, has been issued a one-month detention order as a suspect for war crimes.
