Artan Plakaj, director of public relations department at the Kosovo Intelligence Agency (AKI), is the third official to leave this institution.
Plakaj, according to Indeksonline sources, has resigned for not agreeing with the management of Bashkim Smakaj.
His resignation tolls the number of senior officials leaving AKI to three.
Earlier, AKI deputy director, Latif Merovci, had resigned his post. The decision was taken days before he was due to report to the Kosovo Assembly commission for overseeing AKI about the agency’s activity.
AKI had, at the time, kept the news hidden from the public opinion.
Most recently, director of the agency’s anti-terrorism unit, Kujtim Qerimi, resigned.
He was reported to have left AKI because of the pressure from the heads of the institution.
Despite all the resignations, including several scandals, president Atifete Jahjaga and prime minister Hashim Thaci extended mandate to AKI director, Bashkim Smakaj.
