Russia in Ukraine with the same scenario as Serbia in Kosovo, Croatia and Bosnia (Koha Ditore)

Brussels based correspondent of this daily, Augustin Palokaj, says that the current behavior of Russia towards Ukraine, proves that this country speaks with the argument of force and interprets or better saying ignores the international justice according to its own will. In all its actions in Ossetia, southern Abkhazia and now in Ukraine, Russia has found as a pretext defense of the population in danger.
“This reminds us of a bitter period in Balkans when Serbia, wanting to expand its zone of interest and territory, in order to create greater Serbia, used as pretext for its aggressive policies fear of danger for Serbs who used to live in other territories. The moment Russia started to speak about “threat for Russians in Ukraine,” it was clear that it was warning on its military intervention. Before and during the wars, Milosevic sent soldiers, police officers and paramilitary groups to Kosovo, Croatia and Bosnia and Herzegovina ‘in defense of empty-handed Serbs.’”
It will be difficult for the West to find a solution which would stop Russia if it decides on aggression against Ukraine. Therefore, EU and NATO want to channel all energy on a political agreement. No politically responsible leader wants escalation of conflict and burst of a big war in Europe. However the big question mark is “what does Putin intend,” concludes Palokaj.
