Kosovo Security Force Minister, Agim Ceku, said Serbia should not fear the establishment of Kosovo Armed Forces as this contributes to peace and stability in the region.

Ceku’s reaction comes after statements of Serbian Government officials that they will request an urgent meeting of the UN Security Council because of announcements that Kosovo will establish its armed forces.

Ceku said it is not necessary for the issue to be discussed at the Security Council as this is a decision of the Government of the Republic of Kosovo and does not require approval from Serbia.

In a statement to lajmi.net, Minister Agim Ceku, said the neighbouring country should not and has no reason to be concerned with developments in Kosovo.

“The Security Council has no reason to discuss this issue. This is a decision of the Government of the Republic of Kosovo and the Government of Kosovo does not ask for permission from Serbia for any decision it takes.”

“Serbia, therefore, has no reason to be concerned and no right to be concerned about developments in Kosovo’.

“It should not fear it. We have no hostile approach towards anyone, we have no territorial pretensions towards anyone.”

“The mission of the Force is protecting the territory of the Republic of Kosovo, protecting the sovereignty.”

“Protection is in the function of Kosovo Armed Forces so there is no reason why someone should fear it, but should instead look forward to it.”

“Building of Armed Forces will only contribute to the peace and stability and in no way does it present a threat to anyone.”

“Kosovo Armed Forces will only stabilise the region.”

Government of Kosovo on Tuesday reached a decision to transform Kosovo Security Forces into Armed Forces.

In addition, the KSF Ministry will transform into a Ministry of Defence.

Kosovo Armed Forces are set to have 5,000 active troops and 3,000 reserve.
