Koštunica: We have to remove Brussels’ chains (Vecernje Novosti)

Leader for the Democratic Party of Serbia (DSS) Vojislav Koštunica on election expectations, Europe, alliances and party affairs: We could develop only if we abolish Euro-integrations. We wouldn’t go in coalition with those who see the state in the European Union.

On 16 March citizens choose between the fatal path toward the EU membership and political neutrality of Serbia, which would enable economic development and freedom of the state.

That’s how leader of the DSS  Vojislav Koštunica describes to Novosti upcoming political struggle and says: “This is not a clash between authorities and opposition, but between two totally different and opposed policies. On one side there is SNS and all parliamentary parties in power and opposition ones which are fatally running into the EU, on the other side is DSS which is for political neutrality. Approximation and membership in the EU would inflict to Serbia unimaginable damage state-wise, economic-wise and nation-wise. In the Euro-fanatic policy I see extremism, whereas political neutrality is moderate, reasonable and in the interest of Serbia.

But, majority of parties claim that EU membership, along with best relations with Russia and other states, is the condition for Serbia’s development…

Serbia could develop and provide employment only if it would not lead policy of Euro-integrations. So far we’ve lost a billion and a half Euros in customs due to SAA. As of this year the damage will be bigger, due to customs-free import of agricultural products from the EU. As of 2017 foreigners will be able to buy our land. That is right path to annihilation of Serbia.

What are you offering as an alternative?

On that futile road to the EU we could lose something that is most favorable for our economy and most certain, that is free trade agreement with Russia, and we are the only ones to have it. Even developed EU states are getting out from crisis by re-focusing to Russia’s market. Alternative is economy of political neutrality, which means life and development, in contrary to EU dogma.

Why would citizens vote for you if you are destined to opposition with such policy?

Sort of feeling is growing amongst citizens that state’s relation toward the EU is essential and an issue of a life importance. That is more important for them than whether DSS will be in power or not. Time is working for us, and I am convinced that Serbia’s future is in political neutrality.

Is it possible to have broad coalition after elections which could change the Constitution of Serbia?

Two-thirds majority needed for amending the Constitution could’ve been already formed and so far in the parliament. However, it is not sufficient. For the change of the preamble and all important parts a referendum is needed, whereas people would never vote against itself and against its state.

Should Serbia officially declare its position over the crisis in Ukraine?

Events in Ukraine are proving the correctness of the policy of political neutrality. Crisis in that state was caused only because authorities came to conclusion that SAA should not be signed. Thus, EU exerted pressure, supported violence and destabilized the state. So, joining the EU is not voluntary, it is a matter of force. EU has shown its real face in Ukraine.

I DIDN’T WANT TO LEAVE KOSOVO

Pristina authorities have rudely prevented you from attending a rally. Did you receive any explanation?

I didn’t want to leave Kosovo and several-hours discussion with an Eulex official took place at Jarinje. Meeting with citizens at Jarinje showed what is their real situation and to which extent they are threatened after all Brussels agreements.
