The paper’s front-page editorial notes that news about salary increase is always welcome, “especially in our country where at least one third of the population lives in poverty and around ten percent in extreme poverty. Even public servants, who receive the lowest salaries in the region, are living in poverty. Let us not even mention pensioners. The 25 percent increase of salaries does not tell the real story about living standards in the Republic of Kosovo. If one considers the mandate of the current government, which is failing to complete the normal four-year cycle, and inflation rates every year, it is evident that the salary increase does not cover increased living costs. Kosovo needs fast economic growth and a new vision for development in order to reach satisfactory levels, both in terms of salaries and in living standards”.
