Political analysts in Pristina argue that Kosovo should be more careful in dialogue for normalization of relations with Serbia. Some analysts believe that the change of government in Belgrade will have no impact on talks between Kosovo and Serbia, while others argue that Aleksandar Vucic will focus on strengthening the role and status of Serbs in Kosovo.

Azem Vllasi, political analyst, said the new government in Serbia will have no impact on future developments in dialogue between the two countries. Vllasi also said the European Union will call for the implementation of agreements. “Vucic’s victory in Serbian elections will certainly strengthen his position and in future talks with Kosovo, but this does not mean that he will change the course of dialogue with Kosovo. Because talks between Kosovo and Serbia have been channeled, the process is running its course and Brussels will call on both parties to implement their agreements,” he added.

Belul Beqaj, political analyst, does not share Vllasi’s opinion and thinks that Vucic will initially test the European Union by showing maximum interest in Kosovo and will then do everything to stregnthen the role and status of Kosovo Serbs.

Adnan Merovci, election expert, said Vucic is different from his public persona. “If we refer to the latest talks, Aleksandar Vucic appears as a moderate politician but memory tells us that he can very easily be a Petar Stambolic of the 1990s … No matter who is at the helm of the Serbian state, Kosovo institutions need to respect the Constitution in talks with Serbia,” Merovci added.
