Enis Veliu writes in the weekly column for the paper that Prime Minister Hashim Thaci has launched a campaign to “buy” votes for forthcoming elections using the taxpayers’ money and the decision to increase the salaries of civil servants by 25 percent is one the examples of this.

Veliu says it is still not known where the money to cover this increase will come from and this goes to show that the pay rise decision was not thought carefully by Thaci’s cabinet.

To make things worse, few days ago Thaci also announced the start of construction works on the Pristina-Skopje highway which will cost around 600 million euros, a sum which, in Veliu’s view, cannot be overcome by Kosovo.

Prime Minister Thaci and the members of his cabinet should be aware that the money they manage are not owned by their families’ businesses but are collected through the taxes paid by the citizens and their businesses.
