Illegal voting (Kosova Sot)

The paper in today’s front-page editorial focuses on Sunday’s Serbian parliamentary elections that also took place in the territory of Kosovo and claims that leaders of Serb parties campaigned freely in Kosovo despite it not being permitted by the Constitution of Kosovo.

While the Government of Kosovo has said that Serbs with dual citizenship are allowed to vote in Serbian elections, the voting is only allowed to take place in the territory of Serbia and not that of Kosovo, notes the paper. As such, these elections are illegal and come only days after the northern municipalities approved anti-constitutional statutes.

The paper claims that although Kosovo has reached agreement with Serbia on normalising relations, it is not clear at present what is actually being normalised. “Based on recent developments, Serbia’s interference in Kosovo affairs is being legalized,” adds the paper.

It writes that the Kosovo side is too busy at the moment running its own election campaign but it should find time to address failure of the Serbian side to implement agreement reached in Brussels.
