The paper’s editor, Arben Ahmeti, says the decision of the Prizren Mayor, Ramadan Muja, to freeze his post following the court’s ruling that found him guilty of abusing official position lacks legal basis but while none of political parties in Prizren, except PDK, want Muja to remain in his post, none of them want his immediate departure.

The reason for this, according to Ahmeti, is simple. “None of political parties in Prizren is ready for quick elections.” LDK in the city is all but collapsing, Vetevendosje has begun a restructuring process while AAK has no address at all. Even the local party, BD, led by Zafir Berisha, is not ready as it is not yet clear whether it would run alongside the newly-formed Initiative for Kosovo.

However, the current situation with political parties demonstrates one thing. That the civic movement asking for immediate resignation of Muja has no political background and is not directed by the opposition, argues Ahmeti.

At the same time, the party that cannot imagine heading to elections at this stage, is Ramadan Muja’s PDK and this is because of the Initiative for Kosovo which has crippled PDK’s support in Prizren. “In a situation where PDK would not run Prizren anymore, it would mean Thaci’s party is not leading any major city and it would be confined to the region of origin, Drenica,” writes Ahmeti.
