Bernd Borchardt said that there are no secret indictments in Kosovo, since the mechanism of secret indictments does not exist in the Kosovo Government Legislative system. He also noted that, in a democratic society, there are two main principles – the presumption of innocence and equal application of the law to all.

Borchardt referred to the raid on the Police station in Zubin Potok and the illegal release of the suspect, who was detained on suspicion of having committed serious crimes, and who later fled during the explosion, which was heard in the vicinity of the Police station. “No, this is not a scene from a Hollywood movie. This actually happened last week in Zubin Potok ,” remarked Borhard and said that the fugitive Slobodan Sovrlić was detained in Zubin Potok, according to the arrest warrant, and not because he was on a secret list,” he said.

According to him, the fugitive must be brought to justice, there will be a fair hearing and will be given the opportunity to explain the case before the court.  “It is up to the local population to determine whether to cooperate and support its security forces, to respect them and to provide information when it is needed in order to restore confidence,” believes the head of EULEX.

He is convinced that the majority of people, north and south of the river tend towards the functional and unbiased system based on the rule of law, in which the everyday problems are solved quickly and effectively.

“The rule of law and secure environment, free of organized crime and corruption will encourage investors , economic development and ultimately employment,” said Borhard and wondered if the perpetrators of the illegal release and their political supporters will ever think which image they create about the north. “This is not a procedure that is acceptable to the region that tends to be part of Europe …. The Prime Minister Dacic strictly condemned this process,” recalls head of EULEX.

He said that EULEX is ready to help, and it is possible “only with the sincere support and assistance of the citizens.” “EULEX is here because the EU believes that the north of Kosovo, and Kosovo-wide, has a future. However that future will be uncertain, as long some people are taking the law into their hands”, warns head of the EULEX mission in Kosovo.
