If a new draft law on elections in Kosovo is adopted, displaced persons from the province won’t be able to cast their votes, warned Kosovo Serbs’ representatives.
Even though such proposal has not been placed on parliament’s agenda, Serbs’ representatives warned that such draft law is not favorable from several reasons.
“Besides that it prevents displaced persons from voting, that is, it reduces number of Serbs at voting lists, composition of elections commissions and voting boards would be very bad. There will be only Albanians at those posts, since the proposal provides that only four major parliamentary parties would appoint their representatives,” explained Central Election Commission member, Nenad Rikalo, and stressed that it would be highest hypocrisy if Serbian MPs would vote for such law.
In that case, even in municipalities with Serbian majority, chairpersons of election boards would be Albanians. Rikalo warned that the draft law also envisages abolishment of reserved seats in the Kosovo assembly. “Even though ten guaranteed seats remain, reserved seats for Serbs are meant to be abolished,” said Rikalo.
