Kosovo Prime Minister Hashim Thaci, in an interview for Tirana-based TV Klan, spoke about the Kosovo conflict, the NATO intervention, the post-conflict period, and his plans for the future. He also reconfirmed plans to run for another term and believes that the Democratic Party of Kosovo will win the upcoming elections.

Speaking on justice in Kosovo, Thaci said there is an ongoing battle against corruption and organised crime. He admitted however that his Government is not perfect and that there are no perfect institutions. “The state of Kosovo is functional; the justice institutions are functional and effective. It is an ongoing battle but I think it’s a battle that will be won,” said Thaci.

In the interview, Thaci dismissed parallels between Crimea and Kosovo. “Comparing Crimea to Kosovo is completely groundless. The independence of Kosovo has not come as a result of some movement; it was the result of the will of Kosovo and the coordination with the international community,” stressed Thaci.

PM Thaci also rejected the possibility of Kosovo Liberation Army members committing crimes. “KLA led a defensive, liberation war and we respected all international principles and standards. KLA was the most powerful guerilla force in the world and this is also recognised by the international community.”
