Following U.S. President Barack Obama’s remarks on Tuesday that “comparisons between Crimea and Kosovo are meaningless”, former U.S. Secretary of State Strobe Talbot said parallels by Russian President Vladimir Putin “are bizarre and strange”.
“The Government of Serbia was practically carrying out genocide in Kosovo. People were being massacred and ethnic cleansing was being carried out,” Talbot told CNN. “Serbian actions triggered a military intervention by the international community to stop the killings. There are no similarities between Kosovo and Crimea and Ukraine.”
