Draft Law on Elections not ideal, but it serves purpose
(TV21)

Political parties expect that Draft Law on Elections will go through both readings without any issue, and that it will be passed by the Kosovo Assembly soon. According to them, the Draft Law is not ideal, but it serves the purpose.

Chairperson of the Assembly Legislation Committee Arben Gashi says that LDK expects that the Draft Law will be finally passed in the first week of April.

PDK expects that Draft Law on Elections will be passed in April. Halit Krasniqi of PDK, a Legislation Committee member, says that PDK will not hinder a quick passing of the Draft Law.

Vetëvendosje, on the other hand, believes that it is proper administration of elections that is more important than the time when the Draft Law will be passed.

AAK expects that after its passing in the first reading, the Draft Law will be passed within two weeks.

Civil society believes that the Draft Law should be used as a tool and mechanism to reflect citizens’ will, and to guarantee election process.

Blerim Grainca, election expert, said in an interview with TV21 that he believes that the Draft Law will be passed soon. According to him, the Law sets prerequisites for holding elections, but it does not determine the date of elections. In Grainca’s view, there is no big difference between the previous and the present Draft Law.

Grainca does not think that objection of the Draft Law by Serb community representative regarding reserved seats will prolong passing of the Draft Law. “I heard about it, and it may be one of the obstacles; however, I strongly believe that it will be overcome as a result of many discussions outside the Assembly and of approximating positions,” Grainca said.
