The European Union will call Serbia to harmonize politics with Brussels regarding Russia (in the light of Crimea crises), but it is up to the Belgrade to bring the final decision.
This results from the official EU position stated Maja Kocijancic, spokesperson of the High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Catherine Ashton:” The EU, according to the rule, always calls the countries to comply with our positions, particularly in regards to the sanctions. This particularly applies to countries candidates and potential candidates, which through Accession Agreement obliged to harmonize with the EU foreign policy issues. Their progress towards the EU is also evaluated. However, the final decision in regards to the compliance of policies is on governments of candidate countries.
According to the sources from the Serbian government, our officials are having the intensive talks with partners in Brussels and Moscow, in order to explain the specific position of Serbia. Within consultations, Belgrade is requesting understanding for balanced position of our country.
