Mayor of Gjakova/Djakovica, Mimoza Kusari Lila, says that efforts for economic development have been made, however the results are not yet finalized. Unemployment and poverty continue to be the dominant characteristics of the majority of Kosovo society, while the lack of rule of law has a direct impact on sustainable economic development.

The number of officials who requested bribes has not been small. This drove away many interested companies with serious plans to invest in Kosovo. “Yesterday, a responsible citisen came to report a case of corruption involving a municipal official…and everything ended today with the official being handcuffed. There will be more of such cases in the future. My recent experience taught me that there is a possibility to do much more in the war against corruption, if everyone does his/her duty. The police and prosecution are not the only ones responsible for this serious challenge of the society. The war against corruption is much simpler than we think; we only need determination and faith to take over the responsibility to strengthen this pillar in Kosovo. With strong justice, we will have a strong economy and state, and this is the time which calls for rule of law, for an uncontested priority of our future,” writes Kusari Lila.
