The paper’s editor-in-chief, Arbana Xharra, writes that the mere thought that the ruling network could govern Kosovo for another four years should mobilize the people to prevent this from happening. Calling the current government illegitimate, Xharra says that it is managing to survive only because there is no genuine opposition, because civil society is weak, scared and blackmailed, and because there is no democratic tradition in the territory. “Thaci and his group have proved long ago that they don’t view the citizen as a partner in the state-building process, but rather as a tool for their own riches. In the coming months, Kosovo will have plenty of reasons to send Thaci’s government to the dark side of history. It seems that international justice will strike on the Prime Minister’s closest circle. This will put Kosovo in the headlines again, but the country will have to pay a big mortgage if PDK manages to hold on to power again. This party needs urgent reforms in order to remove criminal suspects from its ranks … Thaci has already proved that he is ready to make all sorts of compromises and negotiations for his own personal interests that will not bring peace to the country and which prevent Kosovo from exercising its sovereignty throughout its territory.”
