“Although there is a blockade by some EU member states, together with some members of the European Parliament, we are working and trying to remove visas for Kosovo this year,” Bernd Posselt, member of the European Parliament’s foreign policy committee and member of the delegation for Albania, Kosovo, Serbia, Montenegro and Bosnia and Herzegovina, said in an interview for RTK. “Currently there is a very grave mood among member states of the European Union. I want to be honest with you on this point: I have fought for this goal, together with many members of the European Union. But to be honest, in some EU member states, including my country, Germany, there is doubt because from many South-East European countries, primarily from South Serbia and Macedonia, there have been many political asylum-seekers in Germany and in other member states, even though residents of these countries cannot seek political asylum because these are democratic countries or countries with developing democracies. This is why interior ministers of some member states are trying to delay visa liberalization for Kosovo. Personally, I am trying to bring visa liberalization for Kosovo, because I don’t want Kosovo to remain an isolated country in Europe, it should enjoy the same rights as Albania, Serbia, Macedonia and other countries. We are going to try but as I said it is not going to be easy … We don’t know when some of EU member states will remove their blockades on visa liberalization for Kosovo. We will apply constant pressure, but one must admit that it is quite difficult for the time being,” Posselt said.
