The paper’s front-page editorial notes that it is obvious that the Prime Minister’s frequent meetings and visits are aimed at securing as much votes as possible for the upcoming parliamentary elections. “The prime minister is conducting an offensive campaign by using state resources and by threatening the integrity of independent institutions. However, the time that is left to correct capital mistakes during the last two mandates is very short and one cannot expect any miracles. Institutions are in a very poor state, public administration is inefficient, there is wide-spread corruption, education is at an all-time low, healthcare is scandalous and economic and genuine businesses have been strangled … The state is being used to secure more votes or to save the current number of votes. The upcoming elections will test the voters’ maturity. This will be a clash not only between parties and their candidates but rather a clash of mindsets. A state for votes or votes for the state? Only the people’s verdict can bring about changes when the country is engulfed in political, institutional, economic and socio-cultural crisis.”
